Furniture From Fungi: Local Students Look Forward to a Sustainable Future

What if furniture could be grown instead of manufactured? Orblynx Academy students explored that possibility by transforming mycelium, the root-like structure of fungi, into functional, sustainable furniture. Through weeks of experimentation, problem-solving, and perseverance, the students designed and created furniture using mycelium and repurposed materials, demonstrating how STEM and innovation can be used to reimagine everyday products with sustainability in mind.
Their groundbreaking work was featured by Ashburn Magazine, celebrating the students’ creativity, persistence, and commitment to building a more sustainable future.
